    A new location has been selected for the Westside Drop-off Recycling Center. Walmart has provided a new, permanent space at 395 N. K-7 Hwy. in the southeast corner of the parking lot. Visit /OMS/Recycling to learn more about items accepted.

    The City of Olathe recently completed its first two-year budget process.  On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the City Council formally adopted the 2016 budget and conditionally approved the 2017 budget.  The 2016-2020 Capital Improvement Program and 2016-2017 Fee Resolution were also approved.  For more information visit .

    Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop features 1860s Living History Wednesdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Activities may include cookstove and blacksmith demonstrations, stagecoach rides, visiting the Mahaffie House and the Agricultural Heritage Livestock Barn, and exhibits in the Heritage Center.

    Mayor Michael Copeland’s children’s reading initiative, “I Read with Mayor Mike,” will begin the 11th year in Olathe’s ten Title I elementary schools this fall.  The literacy program is welcoming two new sponsors: the Cintas Corporation and Olathe Whole Foods Market. 

    Each year, Mayor Copeland reads to Title I first graders, emphasizing that reading is an important part of good citizenship that brings lifelong rewards.  Students receive a paperback book, book bag, and sticker, all funded by program sponsors.

    Starting on Monday, July 27, the City of Olathe will be adjusting the routes for residential trash and curbside recycling pickup. Routes are being re-balanced for the first time in almost ten years to increase efficiency and accommodate new growth in Olathe.
