The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm has played an important role in the history of Olathe since 1858. This year, Mahaffie is commemorating that role with a year-long celebration of the “sesquicentennial” birthday of its centerpiece: the 150-year-old limestone farmhouse.
BNSF will temporarily close the railroad crossing at Dennis Avenue, between Grant Street and Kansas Avenue, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 10. The crossing is expected to remain closed through Wednesday, Feb. 11, as BNSF conducts routine maintenance in the area.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will remove the west half of the existing bridge at K-10 and Ridgeview Road beginning Friday, Feb. 13 through Wednesday, Feb. 19. The overnight demolition work will be done sections at a time and will force traffic to shift onto the east half of the new bridge for several weeks.
All Johnson County residents have the opportunity to drop off their unwanted Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) at the City of Olathe’s drop-off event. The event will be held Feb. 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the HHW facility located at 1420 S. Robinson Dr. behind Public Works and Customer Service. No appointment is necessary.
