Developers, contractors, others involved in development in Olathe, and the general public are invited to a City of Olathe Board of Code Review meeting and public hearing in the first floor City of Governor's Room at Olathe City Hall, 100 E. Santa Fe.

At this meeting and public hearing the Board of Code Review will discuss issues related to the City's consideration of the adoption of the 2006 International Building Codes.

These are codes for: building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire, residential, fuel gas and property maintenance. The Board is especially interested in issues the City Council has identified relating to the possible adoption of these codes. These issues include:

  • Costs associated with adoption and implementation of these codes - particularly how the codes would increase the costs of housing in Olathe.
  • Issues related to the need to possibly include fire sprinklers in certain new houses (depending on both the water flow available to the house and the size of the house). Issues include costs and insurance impacts.
  • Requirements to address concerns about the construction of some new houses being "stalled"-work not progressing for over 90 days.
  • The public is invited to share their thoughts about these issues and other codes issues with the Board. Public testimony will be taken.
