Olathe receives "Tree City U.S.A." designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation for a 23rd consecutive year and a Growth Award for the 13th consecutive year

Outstanding Special Event Award
The City receives the Outstanding Special Event Award from the National Recreation and Parks Association for its DEAF Sunday partnership

Inaugural Kansas Inclusive Communities Award
The City receives the Inaugural Kansas Inclusive Communities Award from Interhab and the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities. The award recognizes the City for its dedication to, and innovation in, creating a more inclusive environment for Kansans with developmental disabilities

Housing Programs Recognized by HUD
The Public Housing program is awarded "High Performer" status from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Section 8 Voucher program is also awarded "High Performer" status

Outstanding Risk Control Award
The City of Olathe Housing Authority earns an Outstanding Risk Control Award from the Housing Authority Insurance Group for the fourth consecutive year. Olathe qualified for the recognition by implementing the required nine risk control standards. Only 60 housing authorities nationwide were recognized with the award. By meeting the nine standards, Olathe merits a $1,182 credit on the Housing Authority insurance premiums for 2006

Low Loss Achievement Award
Olathe's Housing Authority earns a Low Loss Achievement Award from the Housing Authority Insurance Group. The award recognizes Olathe's consistent, positive performance in achieving a low loss ratio in general liability claims since 2001

GFOA Certificate of Achievement Award
The City receives the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reports from the Government Finance Officer's Association (GFOA) for the 27th consecutive year

Olathe Named 7th Most Digital-Savvy City
Olathe is named the seventh-most digitally-savvy, cutting-edge city in the nation among cities with a population of 75,000-124,999 by the 2005 Digital Cities Survey conducted by the Center for Digital Government

Olathe Named Top Ten Suburb
Olathe is rated one of the Top Ten Suburbs by the Kansas City Star

Sgt. Branyon Receives Award for Valor
Police Sergeant Branyon receives the "Award for Valor" from the National Tactical Officer's Association. This award is given as a result of Sgt. Branyon's actions relating to the Capital Federal Bank robbery on May 18, 2005

Sundberg Named Child Advocate of the Year
Police Detective Don Sundberg is recognized as the Johnson County Child Advocate of the Year at the annual luncheon hosted by Sunflower House
