2009 ICMA Program Excellence Award
The International City/County Management Association has announced that the City of Olathe will be one of ten local governments to be recognized for their outstanding programmatic contributions through ICMA's 2009 Annual Awards Program. "ICMA's Annual Awards Program recognizes creative contributions to professional local government management and demonstrates the value professional management contributes to the quality of life in our cities, towns, and counties. This year, an independent, 17-member evaluation panel reviewed more than 125 eligible nominations."
The City of Olathe will receive a "Program Excellence Award," which is presented to local governments and their chief administrators in recognition of their innovative and successful programs. Specifically, Olathe will receive an award in the "Community Partnership" category. This category of awards "recognizes the programs or processes that demonstrate innovation, excellence, and success in multi-participant involvement between and/or among a local government and other government entities, private sector businesses, individuals, or non-profit agencies to improve the quality of life for residents or provide more efficient and effective services."
Olathe will receive this award for its partnership with Kansas State University, the Kansas Bioscience Authority (KBA), the Olathe School District, Mid-America Nazarene University, and the Olathe Chamber of Commerce in the creation of the "K-State Olathe Innovation Campus." Because of this successful partnership, the K-State Olathe Innovation Campus is well on its way to providing the most comprehensive animal health, and food safety/security oriented education, research and entrepreneurial driven resource in the world.
Currently, project infrastructure construction continues on the site, and plans are in place for the first two buildings, the Kansas Bioscience Authority (KBA) Venture Accelerator and headquarters, and the Kansas State University National Food Safety and Animal Health Institute.
