What is the Olathe Civic Academy?

  • An in-depth look at municipal government providing an opportunity for citizens to interact with city staff and elected officials.
  • Typically scheduled each spring, nine interactive sessions are led by representatives from 12 city departments and four public agencies.

Who can participate in the Olathe Civic Academy?

  • Individuals who live or work in Olathe.
  • Four slots are available for senior high school students in the Olathe School District.

 

What is the cost of participation?  

  • There is no fee to participate; however, there is a substantial time commitment.
  • Dinner is provided before each Civic Academy session.

 

What is expected of participants? 

  • Attendance at all nine Olathe Civic Academy Sessions, one City Council or Planning Commission meeting and graduation at a City Council meeting.
  • Participants bring their enthusiasm and questions.
