Mayor Copeland

Michael Copeland is now serving his third term as mayor of the City of Olathe.  He was first elected mayor in April, 2001.  Prior to that, he served as an at-large Councilmember and mayor pro tem, positions he had held since April, 1995.  He was first elected to the Olathe City Council in 1993 to represent Ward 4.

Mike is President of Anthem Resources, LLC, a commercial banking services firm in Olathe.  A 1994 graduate of Leadership Olathe, Mike is a member of the Board of Directors for Security Savings Bank, the Board of Directors for the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for the MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation, the Olathe Library Board, and the Advisory Council of the Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County.  He is past chairman of the Johnson and Wyandotte Counties Council of Mayors.

Copeland received the Olathe Chamber of Commerce's 2007 Citizen of the Year Award.  A member of the Board of Directors for KVC Behavioral HealthCare, Mike received their Community Partner Award in 2005.  That same year, he was honored as Citizen of the Year by TLC for Children and Families, Inc.

Mike is a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University and a 2004 recipient of MNU's Distinguished Community Service Award.  He and his wife Maria live in Olathe with their two daughters, Olivia and Abigail, and their son Joshua.


Goals for Olathe:

  • Ensure that Olathe remains nationally-recognized as one of America's best places to live.

  • Continually direct City resources toward our citizens' top priorities, such as traffic improvement projects and public safety.

  • Ensure that the City is forward thinking and taking a strategic approach to quality planning for our future.

  • Keep Olathe government open and accessible for our citizens.

  • Broaden our community's tax base, with a focus on knowledge-based jobs for our information-age global economy.
