Jim Randall

Councilmember Jim Randall began his fourth term on the City Council in April 2007 and is currently serving his second term as Mayor Pro Tem.

He is a training and development manager with Black and Veatch and served on the City’s Planning Commission from May 1998, through May 1999. Prior to joining Black and Veatch, Jim was a training specialist with the American Management Association, delivering seminars throughout the United States in the areas of finance, marketing, and management. He has also been a marketing and training manager for a division of Shell Oil Company, developing plans and programs to achieve market share increases. Jim’s financial background includes employment as a senior consultant for KPMG Peat Marwick, a Big 6 public accounting firm.

Jim currently serves as:

  • Chairman, Organization Effectiveness Council;
  • Energy Alliance, Sales and Marketing Institute; and
  • Project Management Institute.


Goals for Olathe:

  • Continue assuming an increasing leadership role in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
  • Ensure we maintain our infrastructure (roads, water, sewers) at a high level, given the economic challenges we’re facing.
  • Continue Olathe’s status as being recognized by residents as the safest city in the area.
  • Within 5 or 10 years, to have constructed at least one railroad underpass and completed projects that allow us to easily cross the highway at 127th Street and at Lone Elm and have developed new parkland and preserved our downtown.
