About the City Manager

J. Michael Wilkes was hired by the Olathe City Council as Olathe City Manager January 1999. He previously served as City Administrator of Alpharetta, Georgia for five years and Assistant County Manager of Gwinnett County, Georgia for two years. Wilkes received his master's in Public Administration from Georgia State University and his bachelor's of arts from the University of Alabama. Wilkes is a member of the Olathe Santa Fe Trail Rotary Club, Johnson County United Way Board, Olathe Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive Committee member, Olathe Economic Development Council Board and Executive Committee member, and Olathe Sports Advisory Council Board member. 

He was named to the 1999 Johnson County Business Times “40 Under 40” group; Olathe Citizen of the Year in 2001; Received the Olathe Character Council Award in 2007 and is an honorary graduate of 2001 Leadership Olathe Class.
