Interior Housing Inspections

In an effort to provide safe and sanitary housing conditions, the City requires owners to maintain rental properties through the International Property Maintenance Code, 2000 Edition. Interior inspections can be conducted at the request of an occupant to determine if there are code violations. To request an inspection, please contact Community Enhancement at (913) 971-8580.

Below are examples of unsafe conditions:

Electrical water faucet

  • No exposed wiring

  • Adequate sized service

  • No damaged or detiorated wiring

 

Mechanical

  • Habitable rooms must be capable of maintaining a room at 65 degrees

  • Mechanical appliances must be in a safe working condition

 

Plumbing

  • Plumbing fixtures must be in a safe and working condition

  • Must have hot and cold running water

 

Sanitary

  • Occupants are required to keep rental unit in a neat and sanitary condition

  • Free of insect and rodent infestation

 

Smoke Alarms

  • Must be installed in accordance to the International Fire Code
