Building Permits

Building Permits (along with Building Inspections) is part of the Building Codes Division and is responsible for enforcing the various building codes to ensure safety and quality of construction. The staff reviews building plans and issues building permits.

Building Codes is located at Fire Administration (1225 S. Hamilton Circle) and staff are available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm to receive submittals and help with permitting questions.


POLICY CHANGE - PROOF OF CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE AND LISTED PERMITTEES

As of February 21, 2012 the Building Codes Division will require all Johnson County licensed contractors and the subcontractors to fill out and sign a Contractor/Subcontractor Permit Commitment Form and provide a photo copy of their Johnson County Contractor license and driver license or other government issued photo ID of the licensed permittee prior to issuance of the permit.

Swimming pool, hot tub and spa information:
The effective use of barriers around water is the best way to reduce tragic losses relevant to pools, hot tubs and spas since drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in the home for children under five years of age. Permitting information about swimming pools, hot tubs and spas are available on the "forms" page.
