For projects involving food handling and food preparation, contact the Kansas Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Lodging program for projects involving food handling and food preparation. 


Footing/Foundation only permit:
  • Submit a footing/foundation application.
  • Submit two sets of plans with the seal of a registered architect or engineer. One of these sets, must have a wet seal. Plans should include the erosion control plan, footing, foundation, elevations and any electrical, mechanical and plumbing under slab details.
  • Submit one set of all required drawings and soils report in electronic media (CD or flash drive in PDF). Please include an index referencing all sheets.
  • Submit a “letter of risk” to release the City of Olathe from any liability, in the event at building permit issuance the foundation or under slab is found to not be in compliance.
  • Remit the plan review fee, which is based on square footage of your project. Please make checks payable to the “City of Olathe.”

Please know that for site grading/utilities, a Land Disturbance Permit is processed via the Engineering Division (913-971-9045). 

New Construction:

  • Submit a commercial/industrial building permit application and phased submittal checklist
  • Submit two sets of plans with the seal of a registered architect or engineer. One of these sets, must have a wet seal. Plans should include all civil/site drawings, landscape plans, architectural drawings, mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings. Sheets must be collated as a complete set.
  • Submit one set of all required drawings, soils report, structural calculations and specifications in electronic media (CD or flash drive in PDF). Please include an index referencing all sheets.
  • Remit the plan review fee, which is based on square footage of your project. Please make checks payable to the “City of Olathe.”

It is our goal to review and return comments for new construction permits within 10 working days (starting the first working day after submittal). Incomplete applications or incorrect information could delay plan review and permitting process.

Tenant Finish/Remodel:

  • Submit two sets of plans with the seal of a registered architect or engineer. One of these sets, must have a wet seal. Plans should include all architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing details.
  • Submit one set of all required drawings in electronic media (CD or flash drive in PDF). Please include an index referencing all sheets.
  • Complete pages 12 and 13 of the phased submittal checklist, which is included in the commercial/industrial building permit application.
  • Remit the plan review fee, which is based on square footage of your project. Please make checks payable to the “City of Olathe.”

It is our goal to review and return comments for tenant finish/remodel permits within three working days (starting the first working day after submittal). Incomplete applications or incorrect information could delay plan review and permitting process.
