TO All CERT TEAM MEMBERS:

Identifying Teams by Grid Numbers

There are a couple of things we are working on for CERT right now. The first deals with identifying the number of CERT trained people by the grid in which they reside. (Business teams are in their own category.) The fire departments in Johnson County are dispatch by grid number to calls. We have used that identifier with each team member’s entry into our CERT database. Queries have been done for each grid in Olathe to identify how many trained CERT members are located in those geographic areas. Emergency Management would like to connect CERT members who live in the same area. Please advise if you do NOT want your information shared with others trained in your area.

New Notification System

The second item of interest is a program that will allow Emergency Management several notification options to let you know about events or disaster deployments. To get to that end we need to update the database first to show if members are active or inactive. It is great that Olathe has not had a serious event occur recently. That withstanding, all of you who are trained are very important to Olathe and other communities where you live. We want to keep you on the list as an active member as long as you are willing to help your neighborhood, business, school, etc when a disaster occurs. A few people have made contact when they have moved out of state or the area. They are shown on the database as inactive. Should you desire to move your status to inactive please contact me at your earliest convenience. As soon as we get the database updated, another email will be sent with directions on how to access the notification system so that you can input your contact information. This info may include email addresses, home or cell phone and carrier. This will allow you to update your own information as necessary. Many thanks for your help with this project.

Storm Spotter training with the National Weather Service

This training event is especially formatted for amateur radio operators and emergency service personnel that will work with County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service in the observation and reporting of severe weather events in Johnson County. It will be hosted at the Olathe Fire Administration Building, Monday evening, January 25th beginning at 7 PM. If you are interested in attending please send your registration to Mike Costello with Johnson County Emergency Management and Homeland Security at MCostello@jocogov.org.

Severe Weather Training

Johnson County Emergency Management and Homeland Security offers free public severe weather awareness training. 2011 dates have not been announced yet.  Anyone from the public is welcomed and encouraged to attend to learn more about severe weather events. This session is also conducted by the National Weather Service and is more suited to family involvement.

Thanks for all you do!! Stay Safe!!
