This division ensures that all Olathe firefighters maintain and develop their special emergency and non-emergency skills. Today's firefighter must be prepared to handle a variety of situations.
Olathe firefighters possess emergency skills that enable them to put out different types of fires, mitigate a hazardous materials event, perform emergency rescue including emergency medical services (all Olathe firefighters are emergency medical technicians or paramedics), vehicle extrication, swift water rescue, ice rescue, high angle rescue, hazardous materials, trench rescue, confined space rescue and more. They also have non-emergency skills that enable them to present public education material, perform basic fire and life safety inspections and more.
Each month, every firefighter spends hours honing their skills. As a result, Olathe is provided with quality, emergency services and a fire department that is prepared for almost any emergency or disaster.
