The City of Olathe offers two levels od ArcGIS training, available from an ESRI Authorized Instructor. Both classes are ESRI developed courses and contain the same material used by ESRI in their training. All participants will receive an official ESRI certificate after successful completion of the class. To enroll for a class, click on the link next to the class you are interested in. Class size is limited and determined on a first-come first-served basis with priority enrollment given to City of Olathe employees, with remaining class seats made available to other city, local and state government and educational institution employees.



Classes Offerred:

Introduction to ArcGIS (2 Day Class)

Our Introduction to ArcGIS training class is designed to meet the needs of individuals who are interested in learning how to use GIS as a tool for managing and analyzing spatial data. The course meets the needs of new GIS users by introducing them to GIS concepts and the ArcGIS software. The course will also assist the seasoned GIS user who may be transitioning to the most recent version of the software. Participants in this class will learn fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to query a GIS database, manipulate tabular data, edit spatial and attribute data, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts. Participants learn how to use ArcMap™, ArcCatalog™, and ArcToolbox™ and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. If you are involved in planning, resource management, local, state or federal government, or if you are a consultant or are just interested in learning about GIS and managing spatial data, this training class could be for you.

Introduction to Programming ArcObjects with VBA (3 Day Class)

City of Olathe staff are also authorized to teach Introduction to Programming ArcObjects with VBA. Participants in this class will employ hands-on programming exercises to create usable code for many typical GIS programming tasks using the most commonly used ArcObjects classes. Participants learn to use VBA development tools including the Visual Basic® (VB) Editor, customize dialog box, and online help resources. This class targets users who work with ArcGIS on a technical level but may be new to programming with VBA. It is ideal for users who want to increase productivity by extending ArcGIS applications and for developers who want to create custom applications using VBA. This is an advanced class. Participants in this class should already have a strong knowledge of ArcGIS as well as programming experience, and must already be proficient with Visual Basic or VBA.
