Taxi companies provide transportation services for elderly, disabled or low-income (work related) residents.   The City of Olathe has entered into an agreement with taxi companies to provide rides at a reduced cost. The coupons are used to “pay for” a one-way door-to-door trip in a taxi or wheelchair lift equipped van.  Coupons may only be used for rides anywhere within the city limits of Olathe.

 Program Guidelines

  • Submit application to City of Olathe for program participation.  Program participants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Purchase coupons from the City of Olathe Taxi Coupon Program.
  • Call eligible taxi company at least one hour in advance of when you would like to be picked up.
  • If you need the wheelchair lift van, request that vehicle when you call taxi company for a pick-up. 
  • Complete information requested on the front and back of coupon prior to entering taxi cab.
  • Provide driver one coupon only for a one way trip to any location within city limits of Olathe. Taxi coupons cannot be used for trips outside of Olathe. 
  • Minimum Days of Services are Monday – Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Taxi Companies are required to accept coupons during all operational hours that exceed the minimum service requirements.  No service on major holidays or if weather would pose a risk to riders or company equipment.

 Personal Taxi Coupon Program 

Green Coupons are available only to elderly and/or disabled Olathe citizens meeting the program guidelines needing affordable transportation for personal shopping trips or to reach medical appointments.  The City of Olathe has entered into an agreement with taxi companies to provide rides at a reduced cost for program participants. The coupons are used to “pay for” a one-way door-to-door trip in a taxi or wheelchair lift equipped van.  Coupons may be used for rides anywhere within the city limits of Olathe.

Number of Coupons a person may purchase
Number of Green Coupon Books a program participant may purchase per month is two (20 one-way trips) for personal shopping trips.  Additional coupons may be purchased for medical appointments with documentation from medical provider.

Cost of Coupons
The cost of each coupon is $3.50 and are sold in books of ten coupons for $35.00.  Participants may purchase two coupon books per month.  If participant has medical needs that warrant additional ride coupons, please contact program staff at (913) 971-6260 for guidelines.  back to top

 Work Taxi Coupon Program (Purple Coupons) 

Olathe’s local taxi companies provide transportation services to low-income residents meeting program guidelines for job preparation skills/work & work related activities.  The City of Olathe has entered into an agreement with taxi companies to provide rides at a reduced cost for program participants. The coupons are used to “pay for” a one-way door-to-door trip in a taxi or wheelchair lift equipped van.  Work coupons are not allowed for personal trips.

Number of Coupons a person may purchase
The number of work coupons a program participant may purchase is contingent upon needed weekly work/work related trips with a maximum of five (5) books per month.  Program participants must provide a copy of current pay stub in order to purchase work coupons.  Work coupons may not be used for general shopping trips or medical trips.

Cost of Coupons
The cost of each coupon is $3.00 and are sold in books of ten coupons for $30.00.  Participants may purchase up to five (5) books per month for work related trips within the city limits of Olathe. back to top

 Medical Taxi Coupons Trips (Blue Coupons) 

Coupons for medical trips are available only to elderly and disabled Olathe citizens meeting program guidelines needing affordable transportation to reach medical appointments within the city limits of Olathe.  The City of Olathe has entered into an agreement with taxi companies to provide rides at a reduced cost to program participants. The coupons are used to “pay for” a one-way door-to-door trip in a taxi or wheelchair lift equipped van.  Coupons may only be used for rides anywhere within the city limits of Olathe.

Number of Coupons a person may purchase
Number of individual coupons and/or books a program participant may purchase for medical is dependent upon the number of medical appointments a person has per month.  Program participants must show documentation of the medical need in order to purchase coupons for medical trips.

Cost of Coupons
The cost of each coupon is $3.00 and will be sold indivdually or by the book depending on participants medical need.  back to top

Special Coupons (Yellow Coupons)  

Yellow Coupons are available to all program participants.  The yellow coupons entitle the rider to a five minute stop at any business or location within Olathe.  Taxi companies may not charge participant a regular coupon if stop is less than five minutes.

Number of Yellow Coupon Books a program participant may purchase per month is unlimited.

Cost of Coupons
The cost of each coupon is $1.00 and are sold in books of five coupons for $5.00.   back to top
