Olathe Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund Celebrates Record Year

Post Date:02/06/2017 12:00 PM
The Olathe Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund is celebrating its best-ever campaign with a record total of $183,394, exceeding its 2016 goal of $155,000. Top donor Olathe Public Schools raised $30,550.56 in their “Pennies for Shoes” drive, exceeding 2015 contributions by $400. Student participation in the annual “Pennies for Shoes” program supports the Children’s Shoe Fund and the Olathe Public Schools Foundation.

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund donors are making a difference in the lives of countless children by partnering with local charities to meet basic needs, including food, health care, clothing, school supplies, and more. Seventeen charities serving Olathe youth will benefit from the community’s generous support in 2016.

The success of the campaign marks another significant milestone for the Fund – more than $1 million raised during the past ten years. Since 2007, the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund Board has worked with corporate partners, including ALDI, Farmers Insurance, and Strategy, LLC, to cover all administrative costs for the Fund. This allows 100 percent of donations to go directly to charities, strengthening their vital work across the city.

“We’re celebrating this incredible achievement because our residents and businesses truly care about Olathe youth and families,” said Mayor Michael Copeland. “They understand the importance of protecting our most vulnerable and investing in our future – our children.”
