Olathe Public Library Programming

Please visit the events calendar for an updated list of programs. Questions can be directed to 913-971-6874 for children's programming or 913-971-6888 for adult and teen programming. The Olathe Indian Creek Library, 13511 S. Mur-Len Rd., Suite 129, and the Olathe Downtown Library, 201 E. Park St., are open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m.

  • Meet & Eat Afterschool and Homework Help each Monday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Library and Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Children ages 18 and under are invited to stop by the library for free afterschool meals courtesy of Harvesters. All meals must be eaten on site and are only available for children. This event is sponsored by Harvesters Community Food Network and Friends of the Library. Students in grades K to 10 who need help with homework may receive assistance from high-achieving high school students.
  • Tuesday Tunes on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Bring your musical instruments and jam with musician Betse Ellis, or just come and enjoy the music. Registration is not required.
  • Minecraft & Gaming for Teens on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Teens in grades 6 to 12 will gather to play Minecraft and other video games. Multiple consoles will be available and may include Xbox One, Play Station 4, Nintendo Switch, Wii, and Wii U. Registration is not required.
  • Family Story Time on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the Downtown and Indian Creek libraries. The story will be geared toward children ages 3 to 5, but all ages are welcome. Registration is not required.
  • Raising a Reader – 6 by 6 Early Literacy Skills on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Bring children ages 5 and younger to the meeting room to help grow their "pre-reading" skills as they play with educational toys and books. Registration is not required. 
  • Book Munch for Lunch Bunch on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sunflower Café (111 S. Cherry St.) on the lower level of the County Administration Building. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Registration is not required.
  • Hand Embroidery Workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. All experience levels are welcome. One-on-one guided instruction will be available. Embroidery patterns and stitching supplies will be provided. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6888. 
  • Afternoon LEGO® Club on Wednesday, Nov.15, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Children in grades K to 5 can enjoy library's LEGO® collection. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6874. 
  • Teen Anime Club on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teen Commons (16160 W. 135th St.). Teens in grades 6 to 12 will share manga drawings, watch anime and learn about Japanese culture. Refreshments will be served. Registration is not required.
  • Family History Friday on Friday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Research your family tree with the help of the library’s databases (including Ancestry.com) and Kansas Room genealogy books. Beginning and advanced genealogists are welcome. Librarians and volunteers will be available to help. Registration is not required. 
  • Preschool Craft – Contact Paper Craft on Friday, Nov. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Bring your preschooler and make a fun craft together. All materials will be provided. Registration is not required. 
  • Monday Missions on Mondays, Nov. 20 to Dec. 18, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Learn the art of paper folding, create a secret code, complete a scavenger hunt, and participate in a life-size board game. This program is designed for children in grades K to 5, but parents and siblings are welcome. Registration is not required.
  • Family Chess Night on Monday, Nov. 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. All ages and playing levels are welcome. Boards and equipment will be provided. Registration is not required. 
  • Rad at the Library on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Radoslav Lorković’s masterful piano and accordion style range from elegant classical and jazz to basic blues, country and soul. He has released five critically acclaimed solo recordings and joined numerous artists onstage or in the studio. Registration is not required. 
  • Meet & Eat Lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library and Indian Creek Library. Youth 18 and younger are invited to stop by the libraries for a free meal courtesy of Harvesters. Meals must be eaten on site and are available for youth only. Registration is not required. 
  • Free Family Movie on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. The Emoji Movie, rated PG with a running time of 91 minutes, will be shown. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis starting 30 minutes before the show. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required.
  • Games Galore on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Library. The library will provide an assortment of games for all ages. Registration is not required.
