Project Completions May Cause Traffic Delays

Late August and early September's cool and wet weather is impacting two Olathe street projects' completions; one in the 119th and Strang Line area and the other on Santa Fe from Kansas City Road to Church Street.

Both projects include a "mill and overlay" that removes the worn top layer of asphalt and replacing it with a new coat. Mill and overlay projects are critical to preserving street life and to helping avoid more costly and inconvenient street reconstruction projects.

Weather permitting, both projects are expected to be completed this Saturday, September 20th.

However, due to falling evening temperatures, work originally planned for evening is being moved to daylight hours to allow warm enough temperature for asphalt application.

As a result of the daytime construction schedule, drivers may experience traffic congestion in both areas this afternoon through Saturday and should plan for an extra few minutes of travel time. The City is working closely with the contractor to make sure the project moves as quickly as possible and regrets any inconvenience it may cause.
