Interhab has selected Olathe for a Kansas Inclusive Community Award. Johnson County Developmental Supports nominated the City, recognizing Olathe as "A Welcoming Community." The nomination highlights the City's transportation access for persons with disabilities, the work of the Olathe Human Relations Commission and Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board, family self-sufficiency programs and as home of the Kansas School for the Deaf.
Interhab is a statewide advocacy agency for citizens with disabilities. Olathe was the only city in the state receiving the Kansas Inclusive Communities Award for 2008.
