The second annual COUNTRY Chef Challenge returns to the Olathe Farmers’ Market at 9 a.m. Aug. 25 and Sept. 1. Six teams of Olathe School District students from Les Arts Culinaires will create original dishes using ingredients from the market.
A panel of local celebrity judges will determine the winning two-student team, which will be awarded $1,400. The second- and third-place teams will be awarded $800 each.
In addition, for the first time graphic design students will compete for $2,000 in scholarships, $1,000 for first and $500 each for two runners up. The contest theme is “Fill up on fresh” and students were encouraged to use farming, cityscapes, Olathe landmarks and locally grown fruits, vegetables and flowers in their designs. The winner will be announced Aug. 25 and the design will be printed on market bags provided by presenting sponsor COUNTRY Financial.
Olathe North DECA students also will be providing coffee.
