Crews from a number of City of Olathe departments have been working since well before sunrise responding to high water throughout the city. A number of areas, especially in southeast portions of Olathe, experienced a 25 to 100 year flood event due to the excessive rainfall. Initial reports suggest over 3.5 inches of rain fell over a brief period of time in areas of the city already saturated from previous showers.
The City of Olathe will open its pools on Saturday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m. Black Bob Bay, Frontier Trail and Oregon Trail will operate daily from 12:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mill Creek Pool is open Monday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 8:00 pm.
The summer season officially begins at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, 1200 Kansas City Road, on Friday, May 24. Enjoy living history activities and stagecoach rides from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Olathe Parks and Recreation is gearing up for Youth Volunteer Week, June 3-7. This program is designed for middle school and high school students to get out in the parks and earn service hours. Projects and location sites will vary each day.
