Most properties have underground utility lines that service the home or office. Some of these utilities (electric and gas), can be dangerous, while others (water) can cause extensive property damage and be very expensive to repair if hit. Prior to any digging, Please call the numbers provided to have underground utilities marked

Call Kansas One-Call at 811 to have your telephone, cable, electrical and gas utilities marked.   Further information is available on the Kansas One-Call site at http://www.kansasonecall.com.

For water and sewer, call (913) 971-9311 to have your City of Olathe utilities marked.  If you need a site located within the next two working days or you need an emergency locate, you will need to call the number above.  If it is more than two working days before you need the locate performed and you want to request a locate from the City via email, see below.  After normal working hours (Monday - Friday 8-5), you can leave a message with the after hours answering service by calling (913) 971-5151.

If you are a homeowner who will not be using heavy or powered excavation equipment and/or you do not need a locate in the right of way (the area between your meter pit and the street) then you do not need to request a locate.  Lawn irrigation systems and service lines (the line between the meter pit and your house) are the property of the homeowner and are the homeowner's responsibility to locate. 

For excavators who want to email a locate request, the City will need two full working days advanced notice before the date that you need the site located.  The City observes federal holidays (New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, the 4^th of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), and Christmas), so please keep those in mind when requesting via email.  If you need a locate in less than two working days or you have an emergency locate, please contact the City at 913-971-9311.
