Household Hazardous Waste

HHW FacilityThe City of Olathe operates a year-round program for all Johnson County residents to safely dispose of  Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) at no charge.  Residents can also take advantage of our Product ReUse Program. No commercial waste is accepted.

HHW Monthly Drop-Off Events:

e-Waste is not accepted at Drop-Off Events.
2nd Saturday of each month, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 
No appointment necessary.



For the Product ReUse Program
Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
No appointment is necessary to shop at the Product ReUse Facility.

Both Facilities are closed on holidays.


Additional Information

Disposed liquid waste must be less than five gallons per item.

The HHW Drop-Off event is a drive-thru system.

Provide the following before unloading:

  • Your photo ID
  • General Description of your HHW

Label  products not in their original containers.

Place items in boxes (not trash bags) and keep containers upright.

Please wait for city employees to unload the HHW from your vehicle.

e-waste Recycling Program

Johnson County residents can recycle old household computers, televisions, and other small electronics.  

e-waste items are not accepted at the Monthly HHW Drop-Off Event.

  • Automotive fluids (antifreeze, oil, gasoline)
  • Automotive batteries (lead-acid) and Household batteries
  • Bathroom cleaners
  • Carpet cleaners
  • Cooking oil
  • Drain cleaners
  • Fertilizers
  • Floor cleaners/polish
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Fuels (diesel, gasoline, kerosene)
  • Latex paint
  • Mercury (thermometers, thermostats)
  • Motor oil
  • Oil-based paints
  • Paint thinners
  • Pesticides
  • Solvents
  • Stains/varnishes
  • Wood preservatives
