Spring Home School Day - Registration has closed

Thursday April 17 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Spring activities on the farm may include planting, visiting the Mahaffie House, blacksmith demonstrations & see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's cookstove. Cost is $5/student, accompanying adults admitted free. Registration has closed, if you have questions about registration please call 913.971.5111. This is the correct Spring Home School Day; there is a misprint in the Winter edition of the Olathe Parks and Recreation guide. We apologize for the inconvenience.

 

Playing on the Prairie

Saturday May 3 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. FREE Admission!

Kick off a summer of fun activities with Playing on the Prairie and the grand opening of the new Agricultural Livestock Heritage Barn! In cooperation with the Olathe Junior Service Leage, enjoy spring time crafts, 1860s Living History activities and more!. Stagecoach rides will be offered for $2/person ages 3 & up. (activities subject to change)

  • Animals to visit during this event may include Berkshire Pigs, baby chicks, oxen, Spanish Goats, and Alpacas (courtesy of Total Alpaca Ranch)
  • Talks about the new additions will take place in the new barn at 10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m., additional talks may take place throughout the day
  • Shearing demonstrations will take place at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.
  • Visit exhibits in the new Agricultural Livestock Barn
  • The Johnson County Extension Office will have a combine simulator inside the new barn
  • Members of the Kansas City Fiber Guild will have items for sale
  • Crafts and activities may include: leather stamping, clothespin dolls, planting a sunflower seed, rainsticks, bow and arrow, and a trading post
  • 1860s living history activities may include: butter churning, laundry, games, gold panning, visiting the Mahaffie house, blacksmith and cookstove demonstrations and stagecoach rides ($2/person ages 3 & up)
  • Food available for purchase
  • When you arrive, park in the parking lot of the Heritage Center and pick up your map for a complete list of activities

 

Mom's Matter at Mahaffie-Celebrate Mother's Day!

Sunday May 11 noon to 4:00 p.m.

All family members will enjoy spending time with Mom at Mahaffie! Enjoy 1860s living history activities such as a stagecoach ride, visiting the Mahaffie Home and see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's cookstove. Sit down with your mom to fill out your family tree! Regular site admission applies, $6/adults, $4/children ages 5-11, Olathe residents receive $1/off admission

 

1860s Living History

Memorial Day-Labor Day

Wednesdays-Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sundays noon to 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy 1860s living history such as stagecoach rides, cookstove and blacksmith demonstrations and visit the Mahaffie House. Begin your visit in the Heritage Center to view exhibits and videos about the Mahaffie family and Johnson County. End your visit by purchasin a souvenir from the Mahaffie Market located in the Heritage Center. Active Military receive up to 5 free admission with ID as part of the Blue Star Museums program during these summer months.

 

Day Out with Frank and Ella

Wednesdays & Thursdays in June & July 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Participants will enjoy a different theme each week with hands-on activities, crafts and a stagecoach ride (paying youth only). Cost is $5/youth, accompanying adults free, (adults pay $2/person if they choose to take a stagecoach ride). When you arrive the day of your program, please park in the parking lot of the Heritage Center to pay the admission fee and pick up the map. Please feel free to bring your own lunch to enjoy a picnic under the white tent located on the Mahaffie grounds. Registration encouraged for groups of 10 or more, payment is due the day of the program. To register groups, please call 913.971.5111.

Family Fun Nights

Thursdays in June & July 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Enjoy FREE admission (a small fee applies to some activities) a different theme of history each week with lots of hands on activities. Stagecoach rides are $2/person ages 3 and up.

Independence Day

Friday July 4 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy 1860s living history activities such as cookstove and blacksmith demonstrations, take a stagecoach ride and listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon. Regular site admission applies, $6/adults, $4/children ages 5-11, Olathe residents receive $1/off admission

 

Wild West Days

Saturday September 27 & Sunday September 28

Enjoy our annual fall event featuring live entertainment from the Whip Guy, Wicked Liars, Gunsmoke & Petticoats, Professor Farquar and more! Lots of hands on children's activities for the whole family. Cost is $5/ages 5 & up or a special family rate of 5 tickets for $20!
