Olathe Cyclones Registration Form

Olathe Parks & Recreation sponsors the Olathe Cyclones Swim & Dive Team.  The swim team was organized for the purpose of promoting a summer youth recreation team in Olathe.  There will also be a pre-competitive level, not intended to teach children to swim, but to develop their strokes and endurance to prepare them for competition.  The team belongs to the Johnson County Swim and Dive League and competes in both competitive and pre-competitive meets with other cities in the league.  Team members can participate in both diving and swimming, if desired.

Parent Meeting will be held on Monday, May 14 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. This is your opportunity to order team suits, goggles, caps and parent T-shirts. The meeting will be held at California Trail Middle School.

Requirements: Swimmers & divers will compete at their age level. Age groups will be determined by the participant’s age as of June 1, 2012. Participants must be 18 years or younger to be eligible. Swimmers should be able to swim 25 meters unassisted prior to the start of the season. Divers should not be afraid of diving, should be able to enter the water head first, and need to progress to at least 3 competitive dives in order to compete.

Pre-competitive: Swimmers 11 & under may participate at a pre-competitive level. This is not intended to teach children to swim, but is to develop their strokes and endurance to prepare them for competition. Advancement to the competitive level will be the decision of the coaches. Pre-competitive swimmers will swim 25-meter events in the pre-competitive meets. In competitive meets, events are 50 meters. Swimmers who know only one or two strokes, and/or who can swim only 25 meters without stopping, will most likely be pre-competitive swimmers. Please indicate pre-competitive on enrollment form if your child is at this level. If unsure, please indicate so on the enrollment form.

Eligibility: Individuals may participate on more than one competitive team during the summer league season. USA League swimmers may swim if they are participating in a year-round program during the summer season. Individuals must compete for the city in which they reside if the city has a member team. An exception may be made if the individual lives closer to a neighboring city’s pool. Other cities with teams participating in the Johnson County Swim & Dive League are Fairway, Lenexa, Merriam, Overland Park, Prairie Village, Roeland Park, and Shawnee.

Parent Volunteers: Every family is expected to help at swim meets during the season. It takes many volunteers to make a swim meet successful. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be at the pool each week.

Refunds: If a refund is requested prior to the end of the first week, a $15 administrative fee will be assessed. After the first week, there will be no refunds. All refunds must be requested in writing.

Enrollment: Begins immediately by mail and will continue until age-group limits are reached. 

Swim Practice
* Practices run from May 28 - July 15 and will be held at Black Bob Pool for most weeks and at other Olathe pools for two of the weeks.

Dive Practice
> Black Bob Pool for most weeks and at other Olathe pools for two of the weeks.
> Monday through Friday from 8:40am to 11:50am.
> Divers need to select the particular one hour slot that works best for them and stick with that for the entire season (8:40am; 9:45am; or 10:50am).
