A new farmers’ market will open at the Olathe Community Center, 1205 E. Kansas City Rd., on Saturday, Dec. 5. Each date will feature eight vendors selling a variety of items including farm fresh eggs, honey, homemade goods and more. »

Start the winter season with a visit to Santa’s Wonderland on Friday, Dec. 4, beginning at 5:15 p.m. at the Olathe Community Center, 1205 E. Kansas City Rd. The WinterFest schedule includes: 5:15 p.m. - Visit with Santa, view Olathe Public School choir performances, enjoy free activities, face painting, and booths featuring the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund recipients. 6:45 p.m. – Join Mayor Michael Copeland and special guest, Fox 4 Meteorologist Joe Lauria to light the Olathe Mayor’s Christmas Tree. 7:15 p.m. – Watch “Elf” in the Olathe Community Center gym. Bring blankets only please. Free park and ride service will be available from Olathe North High School, 600 E Prairie. »

The City of Olathe is accepting sculpture entries for the 2016 Downtown Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit. The exhibit is open to all artists 18 years of age and older and all entries must be original work. »

Wild West Days will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Olathe historic site, 1200 E. Kansas City Rd. Family friendly admission is $5/person ages 5 & up or five people for $20; youth ages 4 and under are free. Food will be available for purchase. Some games and activities have an additional fee. »

The City of Olathe will hold the inaugural Olathe Charities 5K on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Frontier Park, benefitting local charities. Olathe Charities 5K is now accepting applications from local organizations looking for a fun and easy fundraiser. Selected organizations receive $20 per runner who designate that they are running on behalf of the charity. Organizations with 501c3 status are encouraged to learn more and fill out the online application form. Runners can register online or call 913-971-8563 with code 11355. Discount registration is $40.00 through Sept. 26, $45 from Sept. 27 to Oct. 9, and $50 the day of the race. »

Trail repairs will take place on Rolling Ridge Trail from Monday, August 10 – Friday August 14. The trail closure will run east of Olathe View and north of Santa Fe (behind the west Wal-Mart) to Prairie Center Park. There will be no detours, so please be aware of this closing. »
