Citizens Police Academy



The Olathe Citizens Police Academy will begin accepting applications for the fall 2016 session on July 1, 2016- July 31,2016.  This session will meet every Thursday night for nine weeks.  Each meeting will be held at the Olathe Police Department from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The fall session will be held from September 15th, 2016 to November 10th, 2016.


This program is not an accredited certification course to become a sworn police officer.

Applicants must:
Be at least 18 years old
Have never been convicted of a felony crime
Be a resident in Olathe or Own/Manage a business in Olathe
Make a commitment to attend the Academy
Submit to a background check for criminal history


The nine-week fast-paced academy includes:

  • Classroom time

  • Hands on displays

  • Ride along with a police officer

Citizens will interact with department personnel in numerous police assignments including:

  • Patrol

  • Investigations

  • Tactical Support Unit

  • Canine Unit

  • Traffic Unit
