Community Service Officer
The City of Olathe, Kansas is seeking a qualified individual to perform various duties to include taking walk in reports at the police station; assisting the public with answers to questions and concerns; handling investigations into crimes and general service calls; preparing applicable reports and citations including Notice to Appears if appropriate; monitoring building security; and performing a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police Department.
Starting Salary
$30,030 a year
Minimum Requirements
Civilian position requires High School diploma/GED equivalency. Previous experience or training on a personal computer is essential. Previous law enforcement experience is desirable.
Applicants must successfully complete a typing test (30 wpm), forms completion & listening test, oral board interview, polygraph examination, extensive background investigation, medical examination and drug screen test.
Applicants must provide all required documentation to be considered for this process.

The City of Olathe is now conducting testing for a Community Service Officer. The testing process will take approximately an hour to complete. The date and time for the upcoming test is listed below:

- Completed City of Olathe application
- Valid photo identification (i.e.: driver's license)

Test Location
Interested candidates will be required to arrive at Olathe City Hall 100 E. Santa Fe Olathe, Kansas on the testing date. Candidates must provide a completed City of Olathe application and photo ID at that time.
Pre-registration is not required.
Reasons For Disqualification
- FALSE STATEMENT: False statement of material fact/deception/fraud.
- FELONIES: No felony convictions, ever. No commission of a felony within past 5 years subject to review.
- MISDEMEANORS: No Convictions of a Class "A" or "B" misdemeanor within the past five years. No commission of a Class "A" or "B" misdemeanor, or crime of moral turpitude within the past 2 years, subject to review.
- DRIVING RECORD: No DUI conviction within the past five years. Three or more traffic citations within the past 12 months. Three or more chargeable or at fault accidents within the past five years. No previous or current driving history that is determined to be unacceptable.
- PROBATION/PAROLE: Currently on probation, parole or diversion. (Inclusive of deferred adjudication). Pardoned for any reason other than being innocent.
- NARCOTICS/CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: Use of any illegal drug, other than marijuana, within the past five years or the sale/manufacture of a controlled substance at any time.
- MARIJUANA: Any use in the past two years.
- MILITARY DISCHARGE/CONDUCT: Discharge other than honorable (no conditions). Conviction/commission of court martial offense.
- THEFTS: Commission/conviction of a Class "C" theft within the past two years. Commission/conviction of a Class "A"/"B" theft within the past five years.
- UNACCEPTABLE BACKGROUND: Work history, educational history, military service, general reputation, and interpersonal relationships.
- City Wide NEPOTISM Policy: Any applicant who has a relative in the employ of the City of Olathe is not eligible for employment. The definition of a relative for hiring purposes is: Spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, step-grandparent, step-grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
