WORK WEEK - Officers generally work a 40-hour, 5-day week. The Police Department pays time and one-half for assigned overtime.
SHIFT ASSIGNMENT - Entry level officers are assigned to any of three shifts and after a specified amount of time may participate in a rotating bid shift based on departmental need.
SPECIALIZED UNITS - The Olathe Police Department includes several specialized units, which include School Resource Officers, Investigations Division, Narcotics Investigation, Tactical Support Unit, Traffic Unit, K-9 Unit, Community Policing, Hostage Negotiation Team, Bicycle Patrol and Honor Guard.
ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES - Promotions are based upon eligibility, training, length of service, and demonstrated ability. Advancement exams are held consisting of a written portion, a psychological profile, and an oral interview.
