The Tactical Support Unit (TSU) is first and foremost a life-saving organization. Through the utilization of special tactics and equipment the TSU endeavors to respond to high risk incidents so as to minimize the likelihood of injury to innocent people, police officers and suspects.
TSU was formed in 1988. The original team of twelve officers has developed over the years to a current allocated staffing of 16 officers, 6 tactical drivers and 4 sergeants. The TSU works closely with the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and the K-9 unit. It responds to the following situations: Armed or Barricaded Suspects, Hostage Situations, High Risk Warrant Service, Dignitary Protection, or any other mission designated by the Chief of Police.
