Raw Water Transmission Main
The City of Olathe Public Works Department is currently preparing an alignment study and engineering design for a 48" Raw Water Transmission Main from the City's new Collector Well 5 to Water Treatment Plant 2. The transmission main will be approximately 17,000 linear feet, and this project will help the City keep up with growing water demands. By the year 2020, water demands are projected to be more than 25% higher than our daily requirements today. Public Works staff are also adressing the increased needs in treated water supply and treatment plant facility requirements.
This project will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 included 15,000 linear feet to be installed between the Kansas River and Water Treatment Plant 2. Phase 1 was completed in 2012. Phase 2 services will include the final design, prepartion of construction cost estimates, finalization of the required easements, preparation of all necessary specifications and permits to achieve bid-ready documents, and installation of approximately 2,000 linear feet of Horizontal Direction Drilling across the river, to allow connection to Collector Well 5.
Black and Veatch Engineering is the design consultant. Phase 2 is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
Current Project Status:
Phase 1 Completed in 2012. Phase 2 scheduled for completion in 2018.
