Rolling Ridge Trail

Project Location/Limits:
The Rolling Ridge Trail will be located on the Little Cedar Creek and will begin at Oregon Trail Park off of Dennis Avenue and run north to Hedge Lane and 131 Street.

Project Scope:
The Rolling Ridge Trail is a 2.3 mile 10' wide asphalt pedestrian and bicycle trail. It will begin at Oregon Trail Park on Dennis Avenue running north to Prairie Center Park.   There is a .25 mile stretch of on-road route along Sheridan Avenue just north of Oregon Trail Pool. The trail  then continues off road at Sheridan and Ferrell. continuing north along the Little Cedar Creek drainage channel and connecting to Prairie Center Park where it will terminate at Hedge Lane and 131st Street. This project is a Transportation Enhancement Act (TEA) funded project where 80% of the construction, land acquisition and utility cost is paid for by the Kansas Department of Transportion. The city is responsible for the design cost while the city and Johnson County Parks and Recreation District are responsible for 20% of construction.

Current Project Status:
Cobra contractors continues to work on the construction of this trail.  All 5 bridges have been installed and 97% of the base material is installed.  Asphalt ihas been installed on a portion of the trail north of Santa Fe.  No asphalt is installed south of Santa Fe.  This project is behind schedule and is anticipated to be completed by March of 2009.
