Street Classification and Prioritization

Pictured below are the 3 types of streets the City of Olathe is responsible for maintaining: Arterial (4-lane roadways), Collector (3-lane streets that carry traffic from locals to arterials), and local streets.

Because of the large number of lane miles the City must maintain,  the following standards are used to prioritize street maintenance projects:

  1. Arterial Streets are the most heavily utilized and receive the highest priority. The City targets all arterials to maintain a PCI of 80 or above.
  2. Collector Streets receive the second priority. The City targets all collector streets to maintain a PCI of 75 or above.
  3. Local Streets receive the third priority. The City targets all local streets to maintain a PCI of 70 or above.
