Transportation Improvement Excise Tax (Signal Excise Tax) (Municipal Code Book 3.35)
The Transportation improvement Excise tax was amended in 2002 to allow for the collection of revenue to fund the installation of intermediate traffic signals along main trafficways. Intermediate traffic signals are those signals that are placed at the intersection of half-section line collectors and main trafficways. Traffic signals at the intersection of two main trafficways (arterials) are paid for from the regular Transportation Improvements Excise Tax.
The amendment would keep the existing street excise tax rate for the initial improvement to collector standards ($0.19 per square foot) and would add a second tax rate to cover a portion of the cost of installing intermediate traffic signals. The second tax rate would be as follows:
Single Family Zoning Districts $.0037 per square foot
Multi Family Zoning Districts $.0120 per square foot
Commercial Zoning Districts $.0576 per square foot
Other Zoning Districts $.0098 per square foot
