Plowin’ & Plantin’ Time at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm Historic Site

It’s time to get the crops in at the Mahaffie farm, just as it was done in the 1860s. On Saturday, April 4, Mahaffie staff and visiting livestock handlers will demonstrate plowing and other field work with draft animals. At this time, it is anticipated that mules, horses, and oxen will all be involved in the activities. The program will last from 10:00 am to approximately 2:00 pm, and is dependant on proper weather and ground conditions. Visit the Mahaffie home, see what’s cooking on the stove, check progress on restoration of the Mahaffie barn, take a stagecoach ride, and view the latest Olathe Historical Society exhibit, The Arts in Olathe (a look at the history of arts and entertainment in Olathe) in the Heritage Center along with the other exhibits telling the story of the Mahaffie family, stagecoach travel, early Olathe, and the western trails. Regular admission for living history days charged ($6 adults/$4 children 5-11: Olathe residents receive $1 off all admission fees) which includes stagecoach rides: or consider a season pass!
