Free Mahaffie Family Fun Nights Start Thursday, June 2

The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, 1200 Kansas City Rd., again will offer Family Fun Nights 6-8 p.m. Thursday nights in June and July.  The open late events feature free admission and stagecoach rides.  A fee applies to some special activities.

Each Thursday night visitors can participate in hands-on activities associated with a different aspect of 1860s history. New this year, the first 100 visitors can collect a different Mahaffie animal trading card.  Attend each week to collect all 8.

  • Cowboy Night - June 2 and July 7
  • Civil War  - June 9 and July 14
  • 19th Century Technology - June 16 and July 21
  • Kansas Farming - June 23 and July 28

This Thursday, June 2 Family Fun Night visitors will learn about the life of a cowboy.  They can rope a “steer, ” use a real branding iron to brand leather, get their photo taken in 19th Century clothing and take a stagecoach ride around the site.  Donations of $2 per person are suggested for stagecoach rides.  The blacksmith shop will be open and staff will be cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie’s wood cookstove.

The historic site is open with living history activities and stagecoach rides 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.  For a complete listing of events visit or call (913) 971-5111.


Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop Croquet Tournament Set for Saturday, June 4

Spots are still available for the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and farm second-annual croquet tournament scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at the historic site, 1200 Kansas City Rd. in Olathe.  The Sunflower Wickets croquet tournament is sponsored by the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Foundation as fundraiser for the historic site.

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally.  Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
