19th Century Technology Featured at Last Free Family Fun NightMany exciting and interesting modern items were invented in the 19th Century.  Get an up-close, hands-on look at some of these inventions at a free family event at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe, Thursday, July 28.  The historic site will be open from 6-8 p.m. for Family Fun Night offering activities focused on 19th Century Technology.  This will be the last event of the summer in Mahaffie’s Family Fun Night series.

Get a close up look at draft power with the site's horse treadmill, learn about the science of the cannon and shoot a rubber band cannon and learn how a telegraph works.  Visitors also can choose to make a paddle boat or an item in the blacksmith shop for a small fee.

As always, visitors can see what's cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's stove and try their skills at a variety of games typically played by children in the 19th century.  Stagecoach rides around the site also will be available; donations of $2 per person are suggested for stagecoach rides.

The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm hosted free Family Fun Nights every Thursday night in June and July.  Each Thursday night visitors could participate in hands-on activities associated with a different aspect of 1860s history. New this year, visitors collected Mahaffie animal trading cards each week.

The historic site is open with living history activities and stagecoach rides 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.  For a complete listing of events visit www.mahaffie.org or call (913) 971-5111.
