Wild West Show Chuckwagon Winners Announced
Over 4,000 visitors enjoyed the entertainment and activities at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm’s 2011 Wild West Show September 24 and 25. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the event such a success!
On Saturday three chuckwagons cooked up some delicious food that was available for tasting. Visitors then voted for their favorite chuckwagon in several different categories. The winners were:
Beans: Rafter R Chuckwagon (Missouri)

Coffee: G Bar Lazy S Chuckwagon (Kansas)
Dessert: G Bar Lazy S Chuckwagon

Harvest Activities in October at Mahaffie
The Wild West Show is over, but there are still many exciting events scheduled for October at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm.
October is harvest month with activities including making cider, chopping wood, learning about the oxen and other farm animals, and harvesting corn. During the month of October visitors will receive $1 off admission for every two or more cans of food they bring to be donated to the Harvesters food bank.
Tiger Cub Scout Day
October 22; 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Tiger Cub Scouts can earn requirements for their Making My Family Special program as well as a special Mahaffie patch offered only during this program. $10/scout, accompanying adults are admitted free. To register call (913) 971-5111.
Trick or Treat Off the Street
Saturday, October 29; 4-6 p.m.
Trick or treat on the Mahaffie grounds.
$3/person, ages 3 and up. No registration required.
Historic Cemetery Tours
October 13, 14, 15 ; Tours begin at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Learn about the historic Olathe Cemetery from Mahaffie staff dressed in 19th Century clothing.
$5/adults, $4/children ages 5-11. Tours meet at Northview Elementary School. Tickets may be purchased in advance, call (913) 971-5111.
As a special feature this year the City of Olathe will remember Civil War veterans buried in the Olathe Memorial Cemetery with a special ceremony and dedication at the Civil War circle located in the cemetery. The dedication of ten new markers will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2011, beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by the annual walking tour of the cemetery.
The Civil War circle statue was a gift to the City from the Olathe Chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic in 1863. An American Flag of 1861 flies in the circle.
It's Windie in Kansas
Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6
Come join us for a Gone with the Wind themed breast cancer prevention and research benefit. Opening reception includes a screening of the film at historic Armour Theater and unveiling of artwork from the renowned artist, Yakovetic! The weekend's events include talks and autograph signings from actors from the film, famous authors and more. Join us for a period ball and silent auction, a Twelve Oaks BBQ, wine tastings, and end on a funny note with an improvised Gone with the Wind theatrical performance at the Green Leaf Theater. Visit the Historic Site
Saturdays and Sundays: The historic house, site grounds and Heritage Center are open. This includes stagecoach rides and living history activities. Stagecoach rides will be given on the half-hour. Learn more about different areas of the historic site with brief presentations by Mahaffie staff at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays and at 1 and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Call for topic details; presentations vary by available staff. Admission is $6 for adults; $4 for children ages 5-11, under 4 are admitted free. (Olathe residents receive $1 off admission with proof of residency.)
Wednesdays through Fridays: Visit the historic grounds and Heritage Center exhibit. The historic house will be closed and stagecoach rides will not be offered. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for chidlren ages 5-11, under 4 are admitted free. (Olathe residents receive $1 off admission with proof of residency.)

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe.
