Experience Winter on the Farm at Mahaffie in FebruarySoap Making

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe, will host its annual Winter on the Farm event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Saturday, February 4 and again Saturday, February 25.  Visitors can discover and help with winter farm chores that may include soap making, cooking on the cookstove, and blacksmithing.  Stagecoach rides will be available weather and ground conditions permitting.  Staff will be demonstrating hog processing at the February 4 event. 

All activities are included with regular daily admission of $6/adults, $4/kids ages 5-11.  Olathe residents receive $1 off admission with proof of residency.  For more information call (913) 971-5111 or visit www.mahaffie.org

 

Exhibit Featuring Olathe North High School to Open at Mahaffie

The exhibit “My Olathe North,” will open at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe, Saturday, February 4.  The exhibit will focus on Olathe North High School and feature historical artifacts such as photos, newspaper clippings, an old band uniform and yearbooks.  The exhibit also will display student and community essays and artwork featuring Olathe North High School.

The exhibit is being coordinated by Becca Renteria in partnership with the Olathe Historical Society and the Olathe North High School Distinguished Scholars Program.  Renteria, a senior at Olathe North High School, is currently an intern at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop as part of the Distinguished Scholars Program.  The program requires its students to conduct a research or community service project.

The exhibit will open formally with a public reception from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, February 4 at the Mahaffie Heritage Center.  The exhibit will be on display through the spring.  The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm is open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. 
 

Teddy Bear Tea Fun for Youth and AdultsTeddy Bear Tea 2011

Dress in your best and bring your favorite doll or stuffed animal to enjoy tea, refreshments and activities at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm’s Teddy Bear Tea.  The event will be held Sunday, February 12 with a session at 1 p.m. for youth in kindergarten through third grade and a session at 3 p.m. for youth in fourth through sixth grades.  All activities will be held inside the Heritage Center, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe.
Admission is $5 per participant for both youth and adults.  To register, call 913-971-5111 or e-mail Mahaffie with the number in your party by Friday, February 10.  Youth must be accompanied by an adult.

The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm is open year-round 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.  Activities vary seasonally.  Details, including a schedule of winter events, are available at www.mahaffie.org or by calling (913) 971-5111.

 

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally.  Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
