The historic site acquired Millie, a milking short-horned cow, over the winter.  Millie will be milked as part of the site’s living history program.  The milk will be used in site programming demonstrations. The Mahaffies, and other 1860s families, would have owned several milk cows.  The milk would be used to drink as well as to make butter, cheese, cream and more.  The 1865 census showed the Mahaffies owned 20 milk cows and produced 600 pounds of butter.  The butter was used by the family as well as in stagecoach stop cooking.
Blacksmith demonstrations will be offered Thursday-Saturday and on Saturday, a knitting demonstration will take place all day. Also on Saturday, a Stagecoach talk will be offered at 11 a.m. and a cooking talk will be offered at 1 p.m.
