Former Kansas City Lyric Opera resident baritone Brian Steele and a host of area operatic luminaries will join the Olathe Community Orchestra for a concert of pop and classical love songs at 2:00 on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 Ridgeview Road in Olathe.
The free program, titled "The Food of Love," will feature Steele along with vocalists Katie Goyer, Laure Ronnebaum, and Paul Hartfield, and will include a complimentary punch-and-cookies reception at intermission.

Black Newspapers & African-American Communities in Kansas
Learn about the rich history and contributions of African-Americans in Kansas and Olathe during this series. The sessions presented by MidAmerica Nazarene University and the City of Olathe, will be at the Bell Cultural Events Center, 2000 Pioneer Blvd., on the campus of the university. The session is free and open to the public.
Representatives from the Olathe Fire Department will be present during the Johnson County Health Department Multiphasic Clinics in Olathe to share fire and life safety information with Older Adults. At the event:
* Safety Packs will be given away to participants in our Injury Prevention Survey!
* Safety Packs will include items to immediately assist in the prevention of unintentional injuries.
* Completed surveys will also go into a drawing for several door prizes to be given away at each location!

Residential trash, yard waste and curbside recycling collections will operate on normal schedule.

Local and state officials want to know what you think about
the proposed K-7 Corridor in Olathe as shown in the 2006
K-7 Corridor Management Study, the basis for improvements
to K-7 in the metropolitan area. The study recommended that
• K-7 should be a freeway through Olathe, and
• be realigned along Lone Elm Road from 183rd Street
to Old Highway 56.

Race Relations in Kansas: Past & Present
Learn about the rich history and contributions of African-Americans in Kansas and Olathe during the 2008 African-American History Month Lecture Series. The City of Olathe will conduct a focus group for individuals, churches, and organizations interested in learning about transportation and human services programs offered through the city's Neighborhood and Human Services Department.
