Mahaffie Begins Spring Season This Week

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe, will participate in the Passport to Adventure Kick-Off on Saturday March 24 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will take place at the Bass Pro Shops in Independence, MO and is hosted by the Interpretive Site Coaltion. Mahaffie activities will include planting a sunflower seed, 19th century indoor games and grinding corn. The Kick Off is FREE and open to the public. Other historic sites and nature centers located in the Kansas City metro will participate.

With the spring season also comes the return of hands-on living history activities, including stagecoach rides, and the cellar of the historic Mahaffie house will be open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.  Visitors can get a hands-on look at springtime on an 1860s farm.  See how farmers would prepare their crops, taste what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's stove, take a stagecoach ride and more!  On Saturday March 24, enjoy a Livestock Talk at 1 p.m. Some activities are weather permitting.  Admission is $6/adults, $4/children ages 5-11, Olathe residents receive $1 off. The Heritage Center only will be open Wednesdays through Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Other upcoming spring activities now open for registration are the Brownie Girl Scout Days Saturday March 31 and Satuday April 21, Spring Home School Day Thursday April 19 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and the Sunday, April 22 historic cemetery tours.
