Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe, received a grant from the Woman’s City Club of Greater Kansas City. The $1250 grant will go towards Title I schools to help with transportation costs for field trips to Mahaffie. The grant amount allows for four $250 grants to be awarded for the 2012-2013 school year. Two grants will be awarded in the fall of 2012 and two grants will be awarded for spring of 2013. An application for the funds is required and grants will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.

It was a busy week at Mahaffie. Mahaffie participated in the National Council for History Educators conference at Crown Center March 22-24. Mahaffie staff learned about new trends in education, how historic sites can collaborate with teachers, and see what teachers are looking for in field trips. Also, on Saturday March 24, Mahaffie participated in the Passport to Adventure Kick Off at Bass Pro Shops in Independence, MO. We had over 100 visitors stop by our booth to try their hand at grinding corn. Visitors also planted a sunflower seed to take home.
