Mahaffie's Spring Cemetery Tour Highlights Local History

Tickets are still available for the popular Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site’s annual Spring Cemetery Tours.  Becca Rentaria, a student from Olathe North High School, will lead visitors through the historic Olathe Memorial Cemetery exploring the symbols, historical figures and landscapes of the cemetery.  Olathe Memorial Cemetery was established in 1865 and is located at 738 N. Chestnut St.
The Spring Cemetery Tour will be held Sunday, April 22 with tours leaving at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.  The tours meet at Northview Elementary, 905 N. Walker. The tour will require long periods of walking and refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $3/adults and $2/children ages 5-11.  Tickets may be purchased by calling the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm at (913) 971-5111 or by visiting the historic site, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Sunday noon to 4 p.m.

Spring Living History Weekends

Mahaffie will be open Saturday April 14 and Sunday April 15. Living History activities may include blacksmithing and stagecoach rides both days. On Saturday, laundry activities will be included and a laundry talk will be at 11 a.m. A livestock will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $6/adults, $4/children ages 5-11, Olathe residents receive $1 off. The Heritage Center only will be open Wednesdays through Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is also open for Brownie Girl Scout Day Saturday April 21. Visit www.mahaffie.org for details. 
 

On Friday April 6, the Olathe Fire Department conducted a controlled burn of the prairie near the Heritage Center. This helps the Native Prairie restoration as it burns the old brush and grass away to make way for new grasses to grow. You can view more photos of this event on our Facebook Page.

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally.  Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
