Meet Mollie the calf at Chick-Fil-A in Olathe Tuesday July 17th from 5pm to 7pm. Kids eat free every Tuesday with the purchase of an adult size combo meal from 5pm to 8pm. Mahaffie will be there until 8pm with grinding corn as well. Drop by and say 'hi', plus see how much Mollie has grown since she was born March 10!
The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site, 1200 Kansas City Rd., in Olathe will feature Kansas Wheat Harvest activities for the theme for this week’s Family Fun Night. Free admission and for a small fee visitors can ride the stagecoach around the site and make an 'S' hook in the blacksmith shop. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to eat under the white tent.
Mahaffie will be harvesting the spring wheat planted at the end of March with a horse drawn reaper. Other activities may include grinding corn, draft power, 19th century games and see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's cookstove. Wheat Harvest weather is usually hot and this summer is no different so experience an authentic summer wheat harvest. We hope to see you there as we appreciate everyone's visit!
The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm will host free Family Fun Nights 5-8 p.m. every Thursday night in June and July. The open late events feature free admission. A fee applies to some special activities including stagecoach rides. Each Thursday night visitors can participate in hands-on activities associated with a different aspect of 1860s history. Again this year, the first 100 visitors can collect a Mahaffie Wild West Show trading card; attend each week to collect all 8. Kansas Chores will be the theme for July 26.
As a special feature the Olathe Historical Society will present a free public viewing of the newest installment in the “Olathe – the City Beautiful” film series at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 19 at the Heritage Center. The movie will focus on JC Nichols. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1897 and the story is of his life in Olathe before he developed the Country Club Plaza. Free popcorn and drinks will be provided.
Preschools, day cares and other youth groups or individuals are invited to attend these drop-in summer fun sessions. Sessions are Wednesdays 9 a.m. to noon or Thursdays noon to 3 p.m. in July. Participants will enjoy a different theme each week with hands-on activities, crafts, a stagecoach ride (paying youth only) and must be accompanied by an adult. Kansas Wheat Harvest will be the theme July 18 and 19. Participants will be able to plant a seed, grind corn, and learn about the horse treadmill.
Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally. Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
