Mahaffie Announces Fall Calendar of Events

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site 1200 Kansas City Road Olathe, announces our 2012 Fall Calendar of Events. The featured fall event is the Wild West Show and Bullwhacker Days Saturday September 22 and Sunday September 23. Experience performances from Annie Oakley, the Whip Guy, and enjoy lots of hands on activities for kids such as roping and gold panning. New this year is Wicked Liars: Fire Eating, Sword Swallowing and Juggling. Enjoy a Cowboy Baseball Game using 1860s rules on Saturday and a youth rodeo and mutton busting on Sunday.
Other special events include Grandparents Day Sunday September 9, Fall Home School Day Thursday September 13 and Cemetery Tours Thursday October 11, Friday October 12 and Saturday October 13. Cemetery Tours this year will feature stories of Olathe during the Civil War. Tour tickets go on sale Wednesday August 1 and can be purchased in the Heritage Center during regular open hours. Tickets are $5/adults and $4/kids ages 5 to 11. Join Mahaffie Saturday October 20 for Tiger Cub Scout Day highlighting Fall Harvest activities and Saturday October 27 for our third Trick or Treat OFF the Street.
Winter events include a Santa Breakfast Saturday November 24, Christmas Open House Saturday December 1 and a Holiday Tea Sunday December 9. More details can be found at www.mahaffie.org

Thank You for Visiting in June and July

School is getting ready to start in August and the staff, volunteers and animals at Mahaffie would like to thank you for visiting in June and July. The summer activities included Frank and Ella's Day Out and the third year for the Open Late Family Fun Nights Thursdays in June and July. Visitors have been enjoying all of these activities, even in the heat, and we thank you for supporting our summer activities. Our Summer Living History activities will still take place Wednesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays noon to 4 p.m. through Labor Day weekend. Activities may include stagecoach rides, visiting the blacksmith, and the Mahaffie farmhouse. After Labor Day weekend, Living History Activities will be on weekends in September and October.

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally.  Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
