Mahaffie Awarded Grant for Education Programs

Funding from the Johnson County Heritage Trust Fund was authorized on Thursday August 16, by the Johnson County Board of Commissioners for 11 historical projects in six cities. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm received $36,500 in Heritage Trust funds to expand and enhance educational programs. Liz Smith, Daily Programs Coordinator says the funds have been earmarked for pre and post packet materials for teachers, a sound system to provide weather updates while children are on the grounds, more money for Title I school scholarships and authentic supplies for hands on activities. Over 8,000 school children visited Mahaffie during the 2010-2011 school year. All school programs are aligned with Kansas and Missouri standards. www.mahaffie.org for updates and details about Mahaffie School Programs.
