Wild West Show and Bullwhacker Days
Enjoy daily shows, live entertainment and children’s games at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop’s annual Wild West Show September 22 and 23. This popular annual event offers visitors a variety of hand-on experiences and live entertainment to provide a taste of life in Kansas during the old west. The Wild West Show will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, September 22 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, September 23 at the Olathe historic site, 1200 Kansas City Rd. Regular daily admission applies; $6 for adults, $4 for kids age 5-11 and kids age 4 and under get in free. As a kick off for October Harvest for Harvesters, visitors who bring in two canned food items for each admission will receive a $1/off admission. Food will be available for purchase. On Saturday, September 22, enjoy the annual Santa Fe Trail Rotary Omelet Fest from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Heritage Center. For $5, visitors can enjoy a freshly made omelet breakfast, coffee, and pastries.
Stagecoach rides will be provided at no charge courtesy of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau. On-going entertainment will be presented in view of the stagecoach area including stagecoach robberies and re-enactments.
New performances this year include Wicked Liars, this dynamic duo performs magic and fire eating, and Cowboy Baseball on Saturday. Wicked Liars will be performing throughout the weekend. Cowboy Baseball will take place at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday in the arena. Cowboy Baseball will use 1860s baseball rules and players of each team will be the Cowboy reenactors and members of the 1860s baseball teams that played in June. Returning performers are the popular Annie Oakley and Frank Butler, Chris Camp the Whip Guy and a world champion gun spinner.
Mutton busting (competitive sheep riding) will be available for children weighing less than 50 pounds will be held Sunday. Registration at the arena the morning of the event is required. The Youth Rodeo will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Mutton Busting following.
The weekend event will also feature many activities for children including a petting zoo, shooting gallery, gold panning, live entertainment and more! A chuckwagon cook-off will be held Saturday only, with limited samples and voting opportunities. Some games and activities have an additional fee. Free event parking with a shuttle to Mahaffie will be available at nearby Olathe North High School. Handicapped accessible parking will be available at the Heritage Center.

The popular Fall Cemetery Tours are Thursday, October 11, Friday, October 12, and Saturday October 13. Tours are 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. each evening. Learn more about Olathe's early history by meeting some of the characters buried in the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. The theme for this year's tour is Quantrill's Raid of Olathe in September of 1862. Tours last approximately one hour and meet in the parking lot of Northview Elementary School 905 N Walker in Olathe. Tickets are $5/adults and $4/children ages 5-11. Tickets can be purchased at the Heritage Center Wednesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. Thursday night is Scout night and a special Cemetery Tour patch is included with the ticket prices for Boy and Girl Scouts. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally. Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
