Mahaffie has several Thanksgiving Events next week for you and your family. Our first Santa Breakfast will be Saturday, November 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Heritage Center. Cost is $7/person and includes a photo with Santa. Registration is required and payment is due the day of the event.
Have friends or family in town for Thanksgiving weekend? Need a diversion from holiday shopping? Enjoy the exhibits in the Heritage Center and Living History activities Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24. Our hours on Friday, November 23 will be 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and open hours on Saturday, November 24 will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular site admission applies, $6/adults, $4/children ages 5-11, Olathe Residents receive $1/off admission.
Our annual Christmas Open House will be Saturday, December 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is FREE! Suggested donation is $2/adults and $1/children ages 5-11. Enjoy the holiday decorations at the Heritage Center, stagecoach rides will be $2/person ages 3 and up, (weather and ground conditions permitting) and other hands on living history activities. Santa will visit the Heritage Center at 1 p.m.! The Shady Grove String Band will play Christmas music in the Heritage Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and the Shawnee Victorian Christmas Carolers will sing from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Other activities include making ornaments in the Heritage Center, stringing popcorn and cranberries, blacksmith demonstrations and see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's Cookstove.
The Holiday Tea will be Sunday, December 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Heritage Center. Cost is $5/person ages 5 and up and Registration is required and payment is due the day of the event. Enjoy tea, refreshments, and make an ornament to take home.
Mahaffie hosted a Trails Symposium on Saturday, November 10. Over 40 people attended the dedication of two Santa Fe Trail Post Markers and learned more about National Registry Sites on National Historic Trails in northeast Kansas, Wagons and other vehicles on the Santa Fe Trail and about the Beasts of Burden, Understanding Oxen. The Trails Symposium was sponsored by the Missouri River Outfitters-Santa Fe Trail Association, Trails Head Chapter-Oregon-California Trails Association and the Kansas City Area Historic Trails Association.
